shoo-fly

Saturday morning we had shoo-fly pie for breakfast. It's a special treat that we only get when we are in Pennsylvania or when Mom comes to visit. M absolutely loves it. Soon after breakfast she was "reading" a book to W and came upon the nursery rhyme "shoo fly, don't bother me". She got this look on her face that she gets when something comes together in her brain and she's putting two and two together.

"Mom, that's like what we had for breakfast."
She thought for a while longer then said with a little bit of a knowing tone and a little bit of question in her voice,

"We get a bunch of flies and bake them in the oven and then we have shoo-fly pie."

It was almost like she thought that had to be what it was made of but she looked at me hoping I would tell her she was wrong. Up until now she hadn't thought of flies as edible and she didn't look too excited about the prospect. But she does love shoo-fly so maybe they aren't too bad?
Pictures were taken in Pittsburgh the day we went with Chad and Mike & Evie to watch the Pirates play the Phillies.
